OAI-PMH
Archives of Community Medicine and Public Health (ACMPH) is committed to the principles of open access and metadata harvesting through the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH). This protocol enables seamless interoperability between repositories, allowing users to access and retrieve metadata in a structured manner.
What is OAI-PMH?
OAI-PMH is a widely adopted metadata harvesting standard developed by the Open Archives Initiative (OAI). It enables repositories to expose structured metadata, facilitating the dissemination of scholarly content to aggregators, search engines, and indexing services.
This protocol supports efficient harvesting of metadata in formats such as Dublin Core (DC) and Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS), ensuring the discoverability of published research.
OAI-PMH Compatibility of ACMPH
ACMPH fully supports the OAI-PMH protocol, enabling metadata harvesting for academic repositories, digital libraries, and research institutions.
To access our metadata, please use the following OAI-PMH Base URL:

Supported OAI-PMH Metadata Formats
Our repository supports the following OAI-PMH metadata formats for metadata retrieval:
- Dublin Core (oai_dc): A widely used metadata standard for digital resources.
- Metadata Object Description Schema (MODS): A richer XML-based format for detailed bibliographic information.
- MarcXML: Metadata format used in library cataloging.
- DataCite Metadata Schema: Standardized metadata for research data management.
Who Can Use OAI-PMH?
OAI-PMH is designed for metadata aggregators, digital libraries, repositories, and search engines to efficiently index and retrieve research content.
Organizations that can benefit from our OAI-PMH service include:
- University Libraries – For institutional research repository integration.
- Academic Indexing Services – To ensure visibility in databases like BASE and Scilit.
- Search Engines – Enabling indexing by scholarly discovery platforms.
- Public Repositories – For metadata sharing with open-access platforms.
How to Use Our OAI-PMH Service?
Metadata can be retrieved from our OAI-PMH service using the following verbs:
- Identify: Retrieves repository details.
- ListMetadataFormats: Displays available metadata formats.
- ListRecords: Retrieves metadata records.
- ListIdentifiers: Provides a list of available identifiers.
To harvest metadata, users must query our OAI-PMH base URL with the relevant verb.
OAI-PMH Integration with Indexing Services
ACMPH ensures global discoverability by integrating with major indexing services via OAI-PMH, including:
- Open Archives Initiative
- BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine)
- CrossRef
- Scilit
- Dimensions
- Microsoft Academic
